He walked away with a plastic baggie that held a few nuggets – of fool’s gold. Equipped with a pan and a sense of adventure, he eagerly sifted through the sand, hoping to strike it rich. Kai couldn’t resist the opportunity to try his hand at panning for gold. If you are able-bodied, I definitely recommend taking this tour. The strange tilt of the house made walking uphill feel like downhill, and the guide performed a number of optical illusions. As we stepped inside the tilted house, we couldn’t help but laugh as our perceptions of gravity were challenged. Probably the most fun (or at least the most laughing) we had was the Mystery Shack, a quirky, leaning house that played tricks on our senses. This narrow-gauge railroad takes visitors on a train ride around the town, offering scenic views and a glimpse into the past. The Calico & Odessa Railroad is a fun attraction within Calico that adds an extra touch of authenticity to the historical experience. At Silverwood Lake rent a boat and cruise around the shoreline or head out waterskiing.When I saw the train and train tracks in Calico, I knew we were in for a treat.At Morongo Valley try birdwatching and viewing other wildlife.Hike or horseback ride on sections of the famous Pacific Crest Trail.In Twentynine Palms play a round of golf.Head out to Barstow and learn about its mining history, tour museum, and shop and dine.In San Bernardino tour the Fullerton Museum and have a picnic in Seccombe Lake Park.Visit the interesting Mojave National Preserve.Discover the wonders of Joshua Tree National Park, especially in the spring when wildflowers are in full bloom.Drive up to Big Bear Lake for fishing, boating, waterskiing, and hiking.Spend a day in Victorville learning about the history of the area as you tour museums.Visitors at Calico Ghost Town Campground have all the excitement of the Ghost Town before them. Those who set out to explore San Bernardino County have a wide variety of places to investigate. San Bernardino County covers more than 20,000 square miles of mountains, forests, desert, and valleys. Head out mountain biking on nearby trails. Head out OHV-ing at Odessa and Mule Canyon via an access trail from the campground. Each reserved campsite for the group accommodates only 4 people, 1 vehicle, and 1 tent. Group Tent Campsites are available for groups of 20 or more. The others areas of the campground do not permit such vehicles, even if inside another vehicle. One section of the campground, near OHV riding areas, allows green sticker and OHV vehicles. Some sites have partial hook-ups, while 104 sites have full hook-ups. Overnight camping includes admission to the Ghost Town for up to six persons per unit.Ĭalico Ghost Town Campground features 265 campsites for RVs, trailers, and tents. Along with that are shops and restaurants, gold panning, a mystery spot, and a 20 Mule Team Off-Road Adventure. Located just northeast of Barstow, Calico Ghost Town is packed with fascinating places to explore, interesting tours, museums, and outdoor adventures. Calico Ghost Town Campground is part of a restored silver mining town from the 1880s.
